Design, Drafting & Engineering
From Concept to Cut List
Every Toews Timberframe begins on paper. We take your vision, whether it's a barn, a backyard pavilion, or a custom home, and engineer it into a precise, permit-ready package built for real Canadian conditions.
1
Site & Brief
We review your site, intended use, span requirements, and local snow/wind loads to establish the structural parameters before any design begins.
2
Frame Layout
Bent spacing, ridge height, post locations, and timber sizes are determined. We produce a preliminary frame layout drawing for your approval.
3
Shop Drawings
Full CAD shop drawings are produced: every mortise, tenon, peg hole, and birdsmouth is dimensioned so the frame can be cut without guesswork.
4
Stamped Package
A licensed structural engineer reviews and stamps the drawings. You receive a complete permit package ready for your local building department.

01
Custom Timberframe Design
No two Toews frames are alike. We design each structure around your specific site, use case, and aesthetic — from a classic king-post garage to a cathedral-ceiling barn with exposed hammer-beam trusses.
Our designs account for Manitoba's heavy snow loads, wind exposure, and the unique character of Douglas fir, white oak, and locally sourced spruce.

Working Drawings
Precision drafting is what separates a beautiful frame from one that goes together on site. Every joint, every timber, every peg hole is dimensioned and detailed in our shop drawing packages.
Our drawings are produced in industry-standard CAD and are formatted for direct use by our cutters and your building crew — no interpretation required.

Structural Engineering
All Toews design packages can include stamped structural engineering drawings produced by a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). Our engineering packages satisfy Canadian building code and municipal permit offices across all Canadian Provinces and into US States upon request.
We calculate for ground snow loads, wind uplift, seismic, and connection capacities — so your frame is engineered for the specific conditions of your site, not a generic template.

Site-specific snow & wind load calculations
-
Timber member sizing verification
-
Connection & fastener specifications
